Roatan in International Media
Roatan in International Media
As we look back on 2016 and prepare for another incredible year to come, it’s easy to see why Roatan has been making headlines all around the world. You don’t have to look too hard to find Roatan in international media. In fact, in 2016, Roatan was called everything from an affordable Caribbean isle to an exotic vacation spot. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights from Roatan’s international press coverage in 2016.
Roatan Beaches Top the Lists
The convenience of traveling directly to Roatan from multiple U.S. and Canadian cities – plus more regional airports every year – means Roatan continues to climb the charts as a top destination in the Caribbean. In 2016, TripAdvisor’s annual Travelers’ Choice Awards named West Bay beach the #9 best beach in the whole world . When you look at the regional rankings, that makes West Bay Beach in Roatan the best beach in all of Central America. Not too bad at all!
Something that we love to remember here at Mariposa Lagoon is that West Bay Beach is indeed beautiful, but touristy. That’s why it received so many positive votes in those awards: sheer numbers of visitors!
Some of our favorite Roatan beaches are nowhere near as popular…which is exactly why we love them! Check out Camp Bay Beach on Roatan’s East End for quiet seclusion and pristine natural beauty to enjoy.
Roatan is a Top-Rated Cruise Destination
Roatan was also highlighted as a great cruise ship stop in multiple articles. The two cruise ports in Roatan host ships from several cruise lines, all bringing thousands of tourists for a day. This offers a great business opportunity if you’re hoping to start your own business in Roatan.
Roatan was named one of the top 10 Caribbean Cruise Ports in the 4th Annual Cruise Fever Fan Awards. The Irish Examiner included Roatan as one of its “Very Best Places to Stop on a Caribbean Cruise” and the Telegraph UK highlighted Roatan as one of their “10 Amazing Cruises for Solo Travellers”.
Life is Good in Roatan
There were plenty of articles highlighting Roatan’s fantastic way of life, too. Islands Magazine named Roatan as one of its “Top 20 Best Islands to Live On” and International Living wrote about their “5 Reasons to Move to the Tropical Island of Roatan.”
International Living also published an article written by East End resident Deb Crofutt, which was then picked up by CNBC and shared again as “How You Can Retire in the Caribbean for $1,000 a Month.
Check out our “Beautiful and Affordable Caribbean Isle” in U.S. News and World Report. Or have a read through this piece in the L.A. Times, “The beach life is the best life on Roatan Island in Honduras.”
Off the Beaten Track in Roatan
ABC News included the Bay Islands in its article “5 Caribbean Destinations You Never Think of Visiting.” And The Houston Chronicle included Roatan in its list of “Exotic Vacation Spots Most of Us Can Only Dream of Visiting.”
We are absolutely certain that 2017 will feature Roatan in international media even more frequently. If you’re considering moving to Roatan, there is no better time than the present.
